The Salesforce Data Analyst resume: turn org data into decisions

There are three "data" roles in the Salesforce world that resumes constantly blur together, and it costs people interviews. The Business Analyst elicits requirements. The Data Cloud specialist unifies and activates data. The Data Analyst does something distinct from both: turns the org's data into reports, dashboards, and CRM Analytics visualisations that leaders actually make decisions from. If your resume says only "built reports in Salesforce," you vanish into a crowd — and you skip the tools and the storytelling that define the role. Name the analytics stack, prove the decisions you drove.

What a Data Analyst resume has to prove

• The analytics and BI stack. Salesforce Reports & Dashboards as the baseline, then the specialist layer: CRM Analytics (formerly Tableau CRM / Einstein Analytics) — Datasets, Dataflows, Recipes (Data Prep), Lenses, dashboards, and SAQL — plus Tableau. These are the keywords a data-analytics recruiter searches for.
• Query and data fluency. SOQL against the org, SQL, data modelling, and the data-integrity work that keeps analysis trustworthy.
• Data storytelling. The part that separates an analyst from a report-builder: translating a business question into a dashboard that answers it, and surfacing the "so what," not just the chart.
• Decisions and outcomes. What leadership did because of your analysis — a metric moved, a risk caught, a process changed.

Don't blur the three data roles

Be explicit about which one you are. If you gather requirements and write user stories, that is the Business Analyst; if you build the ingestion-to-activation pipeline, that is the Data Cloud specialist. The Data Analyst sits between and after them — analysing and visualising. Naming the right one, in your title and summary, is half the battle.

Same domain — now it names the stack, shows the query depth, and ends on a decision, quantified.

Certifications and skills

• Anchor with the platform, then add the analytics credentials: Salesforce's analytics-track certification and, where relevant, a Tableau certification signal specialist depth. List them in full in a dedicated section, per the certification roadmap.
• Name SAQL and SQL explicitly. Complex SAQL and SQL are core to the role, and listing them separates you from someone who only clicks through the report builder.

Clear the filter

Analytics roles are keyword-specific — cover CRM Analytics, Tableau, SAQL, dashboards, data visualisation, SOQL, reporting, data modelling — the way we lay out in the ATS tips. A resume that says only "reporting" never surfaces for the role that pays for the specialist stack.

Lead with the decision, not the chart

The single strongest upgrade to a Data Analyst resume is ending bullets on the decision, not the deliverable. "Built a dashboard" becomes "built the dashboard that shifted territory planning, reallocating quota to the two fastest-growing segments." Analysts are hired to change what the business does — put that on the page.
